Illustrator Spotlight: Meet Chris Embleton-Hall

 

The first two delightful books in the Little Discoveries series are published this month. We chat to the lovely UK illustrator, Chris Embleton-Hall.

Group_POS_copyWhat inspired you to become an illustrator?

I had always drawn from an early age and used to spend a few hours drawing with my Grandad. I suppose it developed from there.


 What do you love the most about your job?
Creating artwork that other people will get enjoyment from and seeing a finished book in print.


How long does it take you to illustrate a book like
Little Discoveries?
Can depend on other workloads at the time but probably about 4 to 6 weeks.

Who is your favourite character in the Little Discoveries
series so far?
Probably Scooter the Cat.

Any advice for up and coming illustrators?
It is hard work and took me about a year of taking my portfolio around before I was lucky enough to be taken on by my agent, Advocate. I have been with them 10 years now and the work has kept coming. Perseverance is the key and I am now looking at hiring a workspace to keep my homelife and worklife separate. After 10 years of working from home I need a bit of social interaction as it can be a bit isolating so hopefully this will add to my illustration experience. I wouldn't do any other job though.
